Looks like the bills didn't get paid

As far as I can currently tell, ODP's monthly fee wasn't paid. Brown signed up for some automatic billing thing so I'm assuming he got a new credit card with a new expiration date and just forgot to update ODP's.

We've sent him an email, and hopefully he sees it... Since he never seems to answer mine :[

Love always, HurpDurp

    1. ...Well, I can't answer for the other staff members, but I'm personally poor as fuck so I could never be able to afford it. I barely made it this month with all of those download sites closing down. They were my main source of income since I can't find a job anywhere. :(

Also, Brown never asked us for money and IIRC, he said he never would.

    2. ya same here and i'm not staff either plus i can't get a job over here plus i only have the $674 i get from the state but i pay $900 just for living expences cause if i didn't live with my parents i wouldn't have any internet or cable. so i have no chance of paying for the site, other wise i would help cover the cost also but sadly i don't know what hurp uses to make his money.

    3. There might also be an issue with donations, simply because what we do is already a bit on shaky ground, and adding what could be seen as "profit" could be problematic.

      Delete
    4. We don't accept donations, it was something the old owner did, then Brown did it once before closing up the site for good.

    5. OP here. I never meant to imply that the staff, including HurpDurp, should be responsible for paying to maintain the site. I was thinking more along the lines of donations or community pool of money, considering the site is based on the whole what's-mine-is-yours mindset.

I mean sharing's seemingly going to get harder (haven't been back since yet so I don't know where that discussion's gone), but also the amount content on the site is inherently limited by the market. I dunno, I'm just not into everything that's on the site, maybe 15% or so, alot of the artists seemed to have faded into obscurity... Maybe just ads? Right? I don't know... 15. Hurp,

We have a fantastic idea for you! We are even willing to share a few trade secrets to help you out.

Are you ready? Here goes...... Start your OWN hypnosis website! Here is what you'll need:

    1. Audio Equipment and Software. This will only run you a couple thousand dollars if you want to do it right.

    2. A website. If you don't know how to build a website it might take you hours upon hours to learn how to do it, or you could hire someone to do it for you. That will only cost you a couple thousand dollars.

    3. Spend hours and hours of your time recording, rerecording, editing and mixing!

    4. Purchase tons of royalty free music, this will cost you several thousand dollars over time but it's so worth it.

    5. Spend hours and hours searching for royalty free images. Purchase and license the appropriate images to represent your work.

    6. Photoshop - Learn Photoshop, oh did I mention Photoshop is only about $800, OR you could steal it??? Just an idea since you're comfortable doing that.

    7. Advertise! Now, once your site is up you'll need to advertise it! This can cost you several hundred dollars a month but hey since you're a talented hypno artist no problem right? You can afford it!

Over time you will begin to build a following of clients. They will fall in love with your work and will be willing to pay you for your talent, that is if you HAVE talent. Now here is the best news of all, since major download sites like Megaupload have been shut down and more and more sites are being shut down every day due to blatant copyright infringement you might actually have a chance to make an HONEST living in this field and you won't need to worry about finding a job because you'll have one. A FULL TIME JOB! Imagine that? Plus if you catch people stealing your work you can just sue the hell out of them, then THEY can pay for all of your bills. It's a WIN, WIN!

We wish you all the luck in the world.

    Sincerely,
    Hypno Women of the Web!

    1. I already have most of that, and it only costs me 11 bucks a year. Jelly?

      Delete
    2. No, not at all. You're unemployed and poor which in itself is a shame. What is even more of a shame is the fact that you have all the resources in the world to make a honest living, and for only $11 a year? So what is your excuse exactly? Are you too lazy to work? I do not envy you in any way whatsoever. Pity you? Yes, because you are pathetic.

      Delete
    3. Just because I have all of that stuff doesn't mean it actually works in a way that can make sure I can eat every day. According to the Internets my website is literally only worth 10 bucks, so it actually costs more to maintain it than it gives.

      Delete
    4. Also, 3 cents doesn't really help me eat either so I don't see why you're getting your panties in such a knot.

      Delete
    5. 1. You can get audio equipment for probably around $200 to replicate the quality of the majority of people releasing files.

      2. If you're paying thousands of dollars to run a website, you're incredibly inefficient at running it, and you're an idiot for paying that much.

      3. Get upset that your hypnosis doesn't actually cause people to be financially endowed to you so stop wasting those hours and hours for you minimal ROI (that's return on investment for you idiotic hypnodommes calling out Hurp for being an idiot).

      4. Continue wasting money on royalty free music. Or quit bitching about it and learn how to compose and produce music yourself.

      5. and 6. Since you've invested HOURS AND HOURS on learning photoshop, make your own shitty fucking images (oh wait the majority of them are already awful). Also, it's funny to think that for what you hypnodommes release as images take hours and hours to produce. Literally at most 3 layered images that include a random hypnotic swirl type thing and some text in a dumb color and stupid font.

      7. Advertise! Cost hundreds of dollars a month!? Again a waste of money.

Here's my two cents to any hypnodomme out there whose initials aren't IV or NF or MC: don't call anyone out for being unemployed. If you consider what you do gainful employment, then there is probably something wrong with you. I'd advise you to reevaluate your cost structure in your business, because with the information given above, it would in fact seem as though you are the poor ones. You bear the risk of your material being infringed upon when you release it on the internet.

Also, I'll be damned if whoever posted the above message has never downloaded anything from the internet in their life. Read a book and get a real job. Until then we'll all happily fap to the files you have so graciously provided.

Keep doing your thing Hurp, hopefully the site is up and running sooner than later. And by the way, everyone should check out the interview with Kim Dotcom post FBI crackdown. 20. Judging from some of the garbage files I've heard by some of these "hypnodommes" they don't spend hours and hours recording their stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Some of them suck I'll agree, but there are many that are quite good and the reason we still listen, no?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The only good one is Nikki Fatale and out of her 7 most recent files we only have one - the collab she did with Mistress Carol.

So... In theory we're only listening to them because they suck.

Also, in response to "hours and hours recording their stuff"... Well, they don't. Very few even have sub-par microphones, and even less of those spell check using Word. By the way, you don't need to spend "thousands" of dollars. Just buy a good noise cancelling USB (important) one. They're literally only $10-$200 (the more you spend, the better the quality). I personally bought a $160 headset.

      Delete
    2. i use a $500 one that i got at a gaming convention for $20

      Delete
    3. Totally agree Hurp.

Those inflated numbers that whatsherface quoted are so fucking inflated it's ridiculous. A good usb mic is next to nothing these days (and, btw, it's obvious that 90 percent of these chicks are using a $10 webcam mic), and any PC built since 1997 can handle the minimal editing on (FREE) Audacity software that this kind of work requires. And as far as 'royalty-free' music goes, I'd love to see the licenses.

The funny thing is, I buy a shitload of work by the good dommes (NF, as you mentioned, IV when she was doing stuff that was actually good, and a couple of others), ones that write good scripts and give a shit about what they put out.

The rest of 'em can go under as far as I care. If ODP helps cull the herd, all the best. I'd rather have less files and have them be high quality than lots and lots of shitty files (as often seems to be the case these days).

Since dommes are listening, here are a few thoughts. Please note that this is directed to only the dommes who are endangered by ODP (Read: the shitty ones).

      1. stop using your built-in laptop mic (and if a fucking police car goes by, hit 'stop' and start again).
      2. write better scripts (at least write SOMETHING down before you start flapping your gums)
      3. ditch the music and extraneous sfx. we don't give a shit about that stuff. Randomly overdubbing your blabber is not effective. Again, just giving a shit goes a long way.
      4. realize that many of us heard about lots of you for the first time on ODP, and be thankful for the business that has been sent your way.
      5. if you're still butt hurt about filesharing, please realize that it's not going away, and either go away yourself or develop a new business model that takes the reality of the marketplace into consideration. Although a well considered business model might be too much for those of you 'pirate' hypnodommes who are just ripping off the careers of actual dommes who came before you. Seriously, YOU LADIES should be paying MzDominica, Anonymistress, Lady Lita and Isabella (among other pioneers) for the material you so often BLATANTLY rip off of them.

For a primer on the reality of the marketplace, and perhaps a successful mode to consider, please google 'Cory Doctorow' and 'Louis CK'.

That advice was on the house, ladies! -kisses!-

      Delete
    4. Haha, I read "blabber" as "bladder" at first.

It's funny because it's basically the same thing, they're just talking out of their asses :3

I'd like to add something to your 5th point, however. Stop being fucking retards and just DMCA the goddamn things. It's not that hard. It's literally ONE email and takes less than 2 minutes to type up (hell, I could probably do it in 30 seconds). Admittedly, this only works if you have access to the website to get the URLs, sure, but Shelly on Hypnochan told the users to remove links from LITERALLY months ago and NEVER DMCA'd it. I even publicly called her a retard for not lrning2dmca.

The topic is here if anyone is interested: http://hypnochan.org/self/res/3454.html

Also, Nikki is a pioneer too. She goes all the way back to the damn Usenet.

      Delete
    5. Good point Hurp, I shoulda added Nikki to that list. One of the earliest AND best.

Also, you're spot on about DMCA option. It is SO DAMN RIDICULOUSLY EASY to get a file pulled!

But remember who we're dealing with... some of these 3rd rate hypno wannabes can't even write a coherent script without cribbing from others' work. Maybe we should type them up a form email that they can use for DCMAs.

      Delete
    6. To say that Dommes are just ripping off previous Dommes is... ungenuine. A lot of the themes used are the same because people keep on asking the same thing from different Dommes. This is a consumer problem... not a producer problem.

      Delete
    7. Nah, not really. There's BLATANT theft of chunks of old scripts in many of the newer jenny-come-latelys' "work". More than just recurring themes, these are direct knockoffs. So, no. Can't dodge that one.

      Delete
    8. Hrmm... are you sure? Do you have proof? Who's doing this blatant ripping? That's a bold accusation without actually saying much.

      Delete
    9. Are you serious? It's no secret, in fact the dommes themselves have had epic flame wars over intellectual property theft among members of there -chuckle- community. There are enough instances to fill a whole other blog! Come to think of it, that's a great idea.

Right, if you have no imagination and are limited to copying others' work!!!

the lack of creativity is so obvious, and unfortunately its not just themes that are ripped off, its verbatim text, whole paragraphs worth. 27. In every forum I have been on including ODP, Copyright holders had the right to report any infringing material. It is the responsibility of the copyright holder notify the forum of any infringing material. Then the forum to take appropriate action. But not for the forum administrators to assume material is in breach of copyright without confirmation from a copyright holder first. If the copyright holder has not informed a forum of a copyright breach, then they cannot expect the forum administrators to remove material/links that has not been reported in breach of copyright. Material could have legally been put on to public domain by the copyright holder. So there is not legal redress as the opportunity is given and even requested to report any material that may have been in breach of copyright to the forum administrators.

      Delete
    3. Literally no chance for a lawsuit. Like someone said above, forum administrators technically assume that what is being posted isn't copyright infringing material. In order for a lawsuit to actually occur the hypnodommes would have to bring a lawsuit against the users who individually posted files, which is difficult. It makes it even harder when the material being posted is being provided from multiple sources (the multiple hypnodommes). i.e. if I post a file from IV and Mistress Bullshit Haley or whatever is pissed a file of hers got posted, she can't file a lawsuit against people posting other dommes files. Literally every domme would have to come together and do it, which seems near impossible.

My advice would be for them to take their own advice. Get a real job, or like I stated in my previous rant, they can continue to waste their money on idiotic costs by adding legal costs to that, because in order for anything to happen legal fees would be extremely high and I highly doubt a respectable lawyer would take them seriously. But what do I know, I'm just a college educated American who has a real job that makes me a PRODUCTIVE member of society.

      Delete
    4. LOL....they have a nice hobby as Hypnodomme, and to say: Well, get a real job....that sounds pitiful (to day the least!)

  31. I think the problem here is that there are a lot of hypnotists who weight their efforts much higher than free seeking internet communities like this one. Most use it as a second source of income, and actually have jobs. So really this is a hobby they want to be compensated for. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's their art. They script their files, they do the recording and editing. It's all homegrown.

And so, when a hypnotist sees a file that took a while to orchestrate and put together get posted to ODP as soon as it's released. They get pissed. It's their extra time that they could have used for other purposes getting flushed down the drain.

Even greater is that a number of the files are produced for people who truly see themselves as submissive. And use the files as an outlet for those fantasies. Because of that these people keep in tight correspondence with the Domme/s of their choice. While here most of the people only use it for one cool trip, or whack off material and couldn't give two shits about the Domme who created it. All porn on the internet should be free right?

The fact that this community collectively rolls their eyes when you see one of the "Dommes" being a bitch for small things like getting people to jump through a couple extra hoops to get a free file shows that you have a complete disregard for the people making them.

Note: I'm not saying that the "Dommes" here are off scott free either. There are "Dommes" out there who only see the people who buy files off of them as a dollar sign only Or an extra pair of shoes.. or whatever.

It's also notorious of them to price older files that don't have the same quality as their new ones or are clunkier in style and less refined at the same price as the new files they release. Basic economics dictates that something that is old and not in demand should not cost the same as something that is new and is heavily in demand. Especially in a free internet.

    ReplyDelete
  32. True, I'm greatly annoyed by people who think it's a right to download/share pirated files.
It's not a right, it's a privilege and you should always respect the original authors of files. And as always, if you like it, buy it.

Whining about quality is a bullshit argument too, if you think the quality is average it doesn't automatically give you the right to pirate the file.

Now I admit that I've pirated a lot in the past but I'm not trying to be a fucking hypocrit about it. Don't start whining with arguments like 'some dommes produce shitty files and therefor I deserve the right to pirate those files'. It's just bullshit.
And they can whine about it as much as they want, in the end it's THEIR files YOU pirated.
I don't think publicly talking about ODP is a very smart thing to do for them though, it's rather stupid really.

And last but not least, I do believe that the pirating from a few years ago boosted the hypnofetish market a lot. The hypnodommes can deny it all they want but I'm pretty sure at least IV and NF got a lot of customers as a result.

    Also, IV sucks now.
    Also, cocks.

    1. Nobody above said that it's their 'right' to pirate material.

I agree with you, and with my original statement, that hypnodommes have gotten a HUGE boost from the trading of their files (not just on ODP, but torrents and the like). Not all of them, mind you, just the ones worth their shit.

That's where the quality 'argument' comes in (not really whining, thanks all the same): No artist worth their shit complains about pirating. The ones who pirating hurts the most are the ones who give the least of a shit about their quality. It's a fucking FACT. The stuff we buy is the stuff we feel an emotional connection with. The stuff that MOVES us. When was the last time a Metallica record moved you? Yep, that's why those dudes have been such douches. Can't build an emotional connection if your band is asleep at the wheel and on autopilot. Or if you're a shitty 'hypnodomme' who cribs scripts from old Christine Michele mp3s and records into your laptop whilst jamming Doritos into your mouth.

The ones who you never hear complaining are the most successful. Perhaps not coincidentally, they see 'pirating' for what it is: an base-energizing loss-leader that generates new fans and brings in far more revenue to the talented than it costs.

Again, google 'Cory Doctorow' and 'Louis CK' and even fucking 'Radiohead' for great examples of artists who are thriving by working WITH this business model instead of against it. And they don't even repeat 'buy my recordings' ad nauseam on their records!

Seriously, there are so many reasons why these ladies would want to take a second and cool down before engaging with this community. Princess Angel is a good example.

Bottom line is, no matter how hard they try to protect their shit, this is still gonna happen. If it's not ODP, it'll be someone else. There was robust filesharing before ODP and hypnochan, and there will be vigorous sharing after they're gone.

Back to your original point though: no one in this thread has said that pirating is a right. What IS being said to the Zaidas and Hayleys of the world is this: if your shit isn't quality, please don't waste everyone's time blaming pirates for your lack of sales. Spend your time instead improving your skills, taking a writing course, learning actual hypnosis techniques, taking voice courses, etc...

    2. >no one in this thread has said that pirating is a right

I never said people said that, it's the way people talk about files they don't own or have any right to own.
All I'm saying is, even if the files suck -in their opinion- it doesn't automagically make the files copyright free. People need to stop acting as if they own the rights to software/music/etc because its _THEIR_ vision on how the world should be.
      It's just plain wrong.

Oldskool scener here, the general p2p mentality sickens me.

    3. Oh and about your Metallica comment, I thought Death Magnetic was a step back into the right direction lol.

    4. I agree with you str00p, it isn't a right and people with that privileged mentality bug me too.

I guess my main thought is: we're here, this is the way things are (no matter how anyone feels about that) and content producers would be better served in working on creative solutions instead of focusing on piracy which is really a red herring and not at all the scourge that everyone makes it out to be. Ultimately, these ladies are not well served by wasting time on this.

The big record companies and motion picture producers can afford to fuck around with file sharing sites, but these gals just can't. So, what do they do then? Simple. Ignore it. Go back to working on their craft and keep getting better. Look at the market and try to figure out new ways of hooking customers (including 'leaking' files, maintaining reasonable prices for their files, subscription services, etc.)... sites like ODP must be a godsend for dommes who need a scapegoat is all I'm saying.

I haven't heard Death Magnetic, but after your thumbs up I am very interested... if it even approaches anything like Master of Puppets then there's maybe a little life left in those dudes yet!

Tessa has a professional practice. Lee gives classes on hypnosis. Shelle Rivers is certified.

    Come on now...

    Mira?

    1. I own a book on neurosurgery. Would that qualify me to operate on your frontal lobe? Hm... I might need to do a laproscopy, but I've only got a $10 webcam mic... and is it OK if I operate on you while I'm eating Snackwells?

Certainly not ALL hypnodommes are guilty of this slipshod approach to their 'craft', but it sure does seem like the ones who are most vocal about piracy are the ones doing the most audible crunchin' and munchin' in their sloppy inductions... coincidence? I think not.

The cream rises to the top and doesn't bother with the 'threat' of piracy. The chaff wallows in mediocrity and lashes out at a convenient scapegoat, or worse, sends their desperate bootlicker out to do the job for 'em.

      Delete
    2. Neurosurgery =/= Hypnosis. The fact that there are books out there specifically designed for the layman to do hypnosis shows that it's safe enough that anyone can do it. People experience trance every day. And is more natural than cracking open someone's skull

Excuse me while I attempt to go find a "How to perform brain surgery on your partner" book

      Delete
    3. I agree! "Fantasy" hypnosis doesn't need to be exact. As long as it gets you off, then erotic hypno is doing its job. Having a real hypnotist is a plus, but not a requirement. I've gone under so many times that a sweet voice and a half decent script is enough to drop me, but that's just me.

That being said, even those standards aren't being met in 90 percent of the files that I've heard. Too bad too, because with so much interest in the genre that's come from sites like Inraptured and, yes, even ODP, there should be no reason for a young lady with half a brain and a good voice to be able to make hand over fist, file sharing or no.

Still, if file sharing thins the herd a bit, well that's just the marketplace regulating itself and pirating is just accelerating these dommes' choice to find a new line of work. Pretty Darwinian, actually.

I'll always support the real Dommes that I love and obey, and I would never share their files, but I find it funny that people just can't face the reality of the times we live in.

  39. I believe that it's not so much the quality of the file that keeps the Domme afloat as much as it's how prolific they are. Think of the people most pirated on ODP... they are the ones with the HUUUUGE back catalog.

The truth of the matter is that it's likely a bell curve... if you're really good, a lot of people will attempt to get their hands on the file. And so people ask, plead, and beg for people to get their hands on it.

    (Instances include, Isabella... Nikki)

If you're... not so great, people see no qualms about pirating your stuff and do it to show people that they shouldn't buy it
    (FHRA)

The problem here is that Zaida actually has decent quality (Anything recorded in a professional studio is better than a USB mic) but she's not prolific enough to make it worth while. She's a huge draw period, her following is pretty massive on IR. If people saw something wrong with her style or didn't like it all that much people wouldn't latch onto her the way they do. Even more, she doesn't do phone sessions. All her stuff are videos and files. So she doesn't that cut.

I've gotta admit, the session I've tried didn't get me under but as far as I recall it was a proper induction technique.. either that or I'm confused with a different session.

    4. She's not bad, just not very inventive... and the incessant 'Buy My Files' crap is offputting. Done first, and far better, by many others.

Still, even if her work is lackluster, I'll admit that she has a fairly legit induction style. Her sound quality is ok too. Her voice isn't bad either, although a bit overwrought. She could benefit from backing off of the melodramatic goth thing and maybe giving a bit more of a singsong delivery.

Overall though, she's just kinda meh I'd say. She could totally get better though, given time and a better script.

For that money you can instead buy:
Between 4-6 music albums (more if on itunes).

Also, once again the whole database is old, can't view shit without a phpBB board to import to and most emails are fake durpdurpdurpdurpdurpdurpdurpdurp issues sure don't help much either.

With that said, are you sure you have a good enough server? I don't know how much Brown was paying a month, but I think he had a dedicated server so it was at least $200 a month (and it was offshore - which is kind of crucial).

Oh, and by the way, if I'm not HurpDurp... How the fuck would I have a database backup anyway? :/

      Delete
    12. I can assure you that I am, in fact NOT Rudy Huxtable from the Cosby show. But I do see a kink in the plan (the offshore server). All of the ones I have are domestic. $200 a month? Was there really THAT much traffic to need something that heavy?

I wasn't looking for a full on db dump, was looking to do (as DDOKing007 stated below) was create a fall back to keep the conversation rolling. Maybe not even have a place to post files, but have a fall back forum to discuss new file releases, etc... something that isn't as linear as the comments on a blog post (completely and totally NO offense meant, you're the only reason we even have THIS to conversate on).

I in no way want a DB dump of the old ODP... too much responsibility. It's moreso (again) just wanting a place to pick up the conversation where we left off, ya know?

      Delete
    13. How is a dedicated server at least 200 a month?
I have several dedicated servers (yes, true dedicated servers, not vps's) and I pay ~20 euro a month per server.
This is with unlimited traffic too (FUP).

btw HurpDurp, I trust you keep that db on a secure location? Wouldn't want a db with 10k members leaking out with all the dirt that was on ODP :-)

Also, you can view the data in your dump just fine, or did you export it in some obscure format? If you have a sql dump you can simply import it in a local db (takes like 1 minute to install mysql, maybe some more to download) and watch that shit.

      Delete
    14. Oh, damn, you're right! I thought phpBB encrypted the data in some way, but it apparently doesn't!

In you're curious where it's saved at: My HDD. Not really sure where else to put it honestly.

As for questions about the price... Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I've never owned a dedicated server, so I dunno. I just copy and pasted what was written here basically: http://adf.ly/6HMXA

We need a forum again so we can honestly talk about the files and dommes without fear of censorship or being shouted down by brain damaged white knights.

  54. I do love how Mistress Zaida is crying poverty, how much pirates take out of her pocket, yet a slave just bought her a new iPhone 4s.

    That's 699 GBP/1100 USD!

    2. You don`t want Whispers 3. My friend has it and says it`s just The 15 mins iDoser (yeah, the one with the music in the middle) looped 3 times with Whispers 1 in the left ear and a bit more descriptive series of whispers in the surround setting.

      Sorry m8.

    3. That's why I said give it to me for free, durr.

Also, if your friend has it, go get him to share that shit :(

  57. It's good that we have this blogspot, but perhaps we could organize a temporary/light-weight/cheap alternative that would still facilitate sharing on occasions when odp.com is down. e.g., an IRC channel?

    1. I'm fairly certain people do not want their IP visible by typing in "/whois *username*". Well, at the very least I don't. Sure, you can hide it, but not all servers or applications support that. For example, my preferred IRC client of choice does not.

  59. UPDATE: If there are any updates I'll make a new blog post, so don't bother asking.

  60. Think it's safe to say the site is dead. Even if it comes back up, by the time it does, don't imagine a lot of people will be around...
